The influence of mid-century design is undeniable in Gerber’s creations, but she still maintains a look that is fresh and unique to her. Sondra seeks innovative techniques, new technology, and a continued openness for ideas. This results in an ever evolving body of work that becomes an experience for the viewer, surprising the eyes as the light dances and changes with the reflections on the surface of the metal. Sondra designs her work to be intricately cut by laser from aluminum in dimensional layers. Each piece is meticulously hand ground on the aluminum surface to create reflective lines that intentionally flow with the artwork. Transparent color is added by hand-painting layers of colors, or with hand-cut fused glass. These pieces are safe to install outdoors.
